OMRON'S COMPACT BAR CODE READER PROVIDES HIGHLY ACCURATE READS REGARDLESS OF LABEL ANGLE OR QUALITY, EASY CONNECTIVITY TO PERIPHERALS

Omron Electronics, Inc., announces the introduction of a new bar code reader, a fixed position laser scanner that offers highly sophisticated scanning abilities and connectivity to a variety of peripherals.

Using patented DRX (data reconstruction) technology, the model V550-A20 obtains highly accurate reads even from skewed or low-quality labels. Its ALC (automatic laser control) feature automatically adjusts for bar codes of varying color, contrast and reflectance. A wide scan angle enables close-distance scanning.

With the scanner and decoder integrated into one compact package, the V550-A20 bar code reader measures only 2.56" (L) x 2.12" (W) x 1.41" (H). This NEMA 12-rated enclosed bar code reader is small enough and sturdy enough for installation in harsh, space-confined factory environments and machinery.

Applications include installation in packaging machinery for the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and other industries as well as installation on rail-type conveyors for quality control and other material handling applications.

The V550-A20 provides a variety of configuration and information exchange options, communicating with any manufacturer's host peripheral via RS-232C, RS-422 or RS-485 multidrop. Communications commands are configurable via Omron's easy-to-use BCSetup software. Up to 32 slaves can be connected to each serial port on the master, depending upon line length and required response time.

Other productivity and flexibility-enhancing features include rapid scan times ranging from 300-700 scans per second and the ability to read all major bar code symbologies. The V550-A20 is also CE approved for sales in Europe. An FDA, IEC Class II solid-state laser light source enhances safety and longevity while reducing power consumption.

The new V550-A20 represents an important addition to Omron's highly successful line of existing automatic identification solutions, which includes RFID (radio frequency identification) and IC and magnetic stripe card readers.
